Self-care is not selfish

Self-care is not selfish. Self-care is the first step toward taking care of everyone and everything around you. If you are not physically, emotionally, and mentally at peace with yourself, you can’t have a healthy relationship with anyone or anything else. Self-care empowers you to be yourself. It gives you confidence and a sense of self-worth.

Self-care pushes you to dig deeper into your being and have a better relationship with yourself and in the process, helps you find your purpose. And then with time, you stop merely existing and actually start living your life. Life becomes more meaningful when you start enjoying every moment without feeling guilty about it.

What is self-care? Self-care means trusting yourself and it involves building a balance between your emotional, physical, spiritual, and psychological self. It means taking care of yourself in a holistic manner and doing things that keep you physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually healthy. Anything that affirms to and strengthens your physical, mental, emotional, relational, and spiritual well-being is self-care.

Why is it important? Self-care encourages you to maintain a healthy relationship with yourself so that you can transmit good feelings to others. You cannot give to others what you don’t have yourself. While some may misconstrue self-care as selfish, it’s far from that. Self-care is positive. Self-care is necessary. Self-care is inclusive.
